YMCA

The YMCA of Central Ohio is the founder of the Columbus Law School, predecessor to Capital University Law School. Upon the request of W. T. Perkins, general secretary of the YMCA, William D. Corn began teaching law classes on Friday, October 16, 1903. Mr. Corn was a local attorney who served as the first professor and dean of the Columbus Law School from 1903-1904. The first faculty member hired by Dean Corn was Henry Ballard. The Law School was owned by and located in the YMCA building at 36 S. Third Street from 1903-1922 and was owned by and located in the YMCA building at 40 W. Long Street from 1923-1966. In September 1966, the Law School became a part of Capital University.
