Scholarship Renewal Criteria

Our Guaranteed Model

Beginning in Fall 2024, all scholarships are guaranteed. Renewal criteria is as follows:

  • Scholarships are guaranteed for a maximum of three years of full-time study (totaling six semesters), or four years for part-time study (totaling eight semesters), so long as the recipient has not been academically dismissed or otherwise dismissed from the law school. Please note that good academic standing at Capital Law is a generous 2.0 GPA.
  • All merit scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and in two, equal installments. These installments are awarded in fall and spring semester only.
  • Recipients who permanently modify their academic load through choosing to move to the part-time program from the full-time program will have their scholarships adjusted proportionally to reflect these changes. Scholarship recipients who increase their academic loads by moving from the part-time program to the full-time program will not receive a corresponding increase in scholarship funds.
  • If a student has received enough credits to graduate in the fall semester (a semester earlier than the traditional course of study), the student will receive only one half of their annual disbursement of scholarship funds in that academic year.
  • Scholarships are not disbursed during the summer semester.
  • A scholarship cannot exceed tuition charges for any semester.

The following information on scholarships and requirements applies only to students who are part of classes entering in 2023 and prior.

Barristers, Presidential, Trustees’ and Dean’s Merit Scholarships

Scholarships are renewed annually if the student maintains the required cumulative grade point average (GPA). The cumulative GPA is reviewed once per academic year after all spring grades have been verified.  If renewed, funds will be applied to the subsequent fall and spring semesters.

First-Year Evening Students: The cumulative GPA is reviewed at the end of the required summer semester.  If grades for summer courses are not completed by the start of fall semester, renewal funds may not be available until after the start of the fall semester.

Cumulative GPA for continuing evening students is reviewed after spring semester grades.
