Why Robyn Runkel Chose Capital
3/19/2019 - Robyn Runkel, L’20, chose to attend Capital University Law School during her junior year at Capital University by taking advantage of the 3+3 Bachelor of Arts/Juris Doctor Program – an accelerated joint degree program that enables students to earn their undergraduate and law degrees in six years.
She says CapLaw is the perfect place to further pursue her academic and professional dreams.
“Living in Columbus the past four years has been the best time of my life,” Robyn says, “so I already knew Capital Law School would provide me with the perfect opportunities for jobs, networking and social events to push me through three years of hard work.”
Growing up in Steubenville, Ohio, Robyn realized after high school that she wanted to live in a big city. She says Columbus is the perfect place to create professional relationships, but also to meet new people in the many popular spots of downtown Columbus. “It’s important to take time for yourself when things get hectic, because your health and well-being needs to come first,” she says.
A May 2018 graduate of Capital University, Robyn earned her bachelor of arts degree in English literature with a minor in political science. With a year of law school already under her belt, she says attending Capital was the best decision she could have made.
“I feel really blessed that I had the opportunity to complete my undergraduate degree in three years,” she says, adding that she was well-prepared for what would come in law school. “My professors helped me get ready for a tough 1L year, and walking in those doors the first day of classes ended up being a little less scary.”
Robyn says the best part about Capital Law is the professors and their willingness to help students succeed. Having a strong support system throughout law school is important, and Robyn found comfort in knowing her professors are always there for her.
After graduation, she plans to stay in Columbus and pursue a career in criminal prosecution. Having past experience working in juvenile criminal law, she hopes to continue in that direction by working at the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office for the remainder of her law school career. While she is open to other practice areas, she says that bringing justice to Columbus is her main goal. She says, “Although I’m not sure where I’ll end up, Columbus and the Capital community will always be home.”
