Why Katherine Warren Chose Capital

3/1/2018  - Katherine Warren, L’19, wanted a law school that was both urban and personal. After growing up in the rural town of Lucasville, Ohio, she wanted to try city life. So she attended Capital University, in the Columbus suburb of Bexley, for her undergraduate degree. There, she was sold on the advantages of living in a city.

But she also came to appreciate the benefits of a personalized learning environment, where the professors knew her name, had open office doors, and stayed after class to answer questions.

Her desire for both a big city life and a small school feeling, among other factors, made the decision to come to Capital University Law School an easy one after she earned her bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Spanish.

Katherine’s studies at Capital University opened her eyes to the pervasiveness of human trafficking, both in Ohio and on a national level. Advocating for the victims of this crime was Katherine’s sole motivation for attending law school.

Since starting at Capital University Law School, Katherine has found many ways to invest her time in anti-human trafficking advocacy. With its central location in the heart of Columbus, the Law School allows for active involvement in a variety of anti-human trafficking efforts. Right from the start, Katherine took an interest in Criminal Law, which was directly relevant to her primary goal of helping human-trafficking survivors. She took a job working for a criminal defense firm in Columbus, and now volunteers actively with organizations dedicating to fighting human trafficking around the city.

“I feel more ready than ever to take on the challenges that brought me to law school in the first place,” says Katherine. “The camaraderie and accessibility of this School is unmatched, and the first-rate educational experience has prepared me with the skills that make me confident in confronting even the most difficult social issues.”
