3/5/2020  -  Alexis Pannell, L’22, knew from a young age that she wanted to attend law school. While doing her research, she discovered that Capital University Law School checked all the boxes of where she wanted to pursue her post-graduate education.

A Columbus native, Alexis has had the opportunity to explore the city as both a child and an adult. Her favorite feature about her hometown is its growth and friendly atmosphere for young professionals.

Following high school, Alexis earned her bachelor’s degree in public affairs from The Ohio State University. She then went to work for Columbus City Council where she helped with various public health policy issues throughout the state capital.

Alexis chose CapLaw for its flexible part-time evening program and its accessible and supportive professors. She now works full-time in the Columbus City Attorney’s Office, while pursuing her law degree. Having the ability to work in a professional career while attending school was very important to her.

While her favorite class is Evidence, she says she looks forward to taking courses in Labor and Employment, which is the practice area she intends to pursue following graduation. It is an interest that was sparked by her upbringing. “I was raised in a union family,” Alexis says, “and union contracts have supported us in more ways than one.”

Alexis credits Capital’s involvement opportunities for helping her to make valuable career and personal connections. “I have made relationships and lifelong friendships at Capital,” she says.

Outside of the classroom, she participates in both pro bono clinics and student organizations. She is a peer advisor, a member of the Black Law Students Association, the Women’s Law Association and is a student representative for Themis and LexisNexis.

“Attending Capital has been a great decision,” she says, “and it is one that I am happy I made.”
