Biography

Professor Ferriell has taught at law schools at the University of Illinois, Santa Clara University, Ohio Northern University, the University of San Diego, the Ohio State University, Seattle University, and Capital University. At Capital he teaches Contracts, Bankruptcy, Commercial Law and Professional Responsibility. He is the author of two law school hornbooks, “Understanding Contracts” (4th ed., 2018) and “Understanding Bankruptcy” (4th ed. 2019, with Edward J. Janger). He has been a member of Ohio’s delegation to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (“Uniform Law Commission”) since 2007 and is chair of the ULC’s “Academic Partnership” Committee. Since 2017 he has also served as a member of the German Village Commission, which reviews proposed architectural changes to structures in Columbus’s historic German Village neighborhood, just south of downtown Columbus. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association, a private religious foundation in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts (MVCMA),  from 2008-2016, and was President of the Association from 2013-2016. He has worked as a volunteer for the “Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure” (GOBA) and “Tour of the Scioto River Valley (TOSRV).  He has been licensed to practice law in California since 1978.

Professor Ferriell enjoys cycling, amateur radio (K8ZDA), and historic preservation.
