Professor Darling teaches Torts, Civil Procedure, Products Liability, and Ohio Civil Rules Practice, for each of which he has prepared his own teaching materials. Since the spring semester 2008, he has team-taught the Ohio Civil Rules Practice course with Adjunct Professor Michael D. Dortch, a prominent member of the Columbus bar. In fall 2009, Prof. Darling and Mr. Dortch team-taught a small section of Torts I, believed to be a “first” for a first-year doctrinal course at CULS.
He is co-author of Ohio Civil Practice, a standard two-volume reference work published and updated annually by Thomson West and used by judges and attorneys throughout the state. Before coming to Capital in 1981, Professor Darling taught at the law schools at Stanford, Santa Clara, University of San Francisco, University of the Pacific (McGeorge), University of California (Davis), and Catholic University of America. He was a consultant to the California Committee of Bar Examiners from 1974 through 1981 and has served on the faculties of the National Judicial College, the Ohio Judicial College, and the Michigan Judicial Institute.
Professor Darling retired in December, 2015.
