Adoption Academy

  • The Adoption Academy is presented by The National Center for Adoption Law & Policy and Nationwide Children's Hospital. This course offers prospective adoptive parents educational programs from an objective source. Our goal is to bring information together in a comprehensive and sensitive manner to help prospective adoptive parents make informed choices. It is meant to be an introduction to the choices prospective adoptive parents have.  The Academy is an eight (8) week series with a Spring and Fall Session. Spring session begins Monday, March 10, 2014 - Monday, May 5, 2014 from 6:30pm - 9:00pm (No session April 14, 2014). Fall session begins Monday, September 22, 2014 - Monday, November 10, 2014 from 6:30pm - 9:00pm.

    Week 2 - Step Process of Domestic Adoption
    Home Studies

    Week 3 - The Step by Step Process of International Adoption
    Dealing with Foreign Governments

    Week 4 - Emotional/Social Considerations
    Cultural Considerations

    Week 5 - Affording Your Adoption and Subsidies
    Tax Issues

    Week 6 -Finding Your Adoptive Child
    The Future of Adoption: News from the National Meeting

    Week 7 - Adoption Panel- Representing Domestic and International Adoption

    Week 8 - Medical and Behavioral Issues of Domestic Adoption
    Medical Issues in International Adoption

    Registration Fee
    $40 for the first person, $35 each additional person

    Confirmation:
    Confirmation of your space in the program will be sent to all class participants who register two weesk before the program.

    Child Care: We are sorry but we are unable to provide child care.

    Cancellation Policy:
    Cancellations must be received two weeks prior to the start of the first class. At that time, refunds will be given minus 30% for administrative costs. No refunds will be given after that time.

    Inclement Weather:
    We follow the Columbus Public Schools announcements for weather closure. If weather is still bad at the time of class and we postpone it, the series will be pushed back one week. We will do our best to reach you by phone or e-mail if class is postponed,.

     All sessions are held at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Education Center at 700 Children's Drive.
