Join fellow law students from across the country in this intensive weeklong course dedicated to adoption law and related child protection issues. Learn about such topics as: the history of adoption law, the adoption process, wrongful adoptions, the impact of artificial reproductive technology, second parent adoptions, and much more! Hear from exciting guest speakers with expert knowledge in specific practice areas such as the Indian Child Welfare Act and the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children. Listen to adoptive parents, birth parents, and adoptees share their personal journeys through the adoption process.
Professors Fawn Gadel and Megan Heydlauff will co-teach the class. The
class format includes discussion of issues from academic and
practitioner perspectives, and guest lecturers on several key topics.
With approval of their home institutions, students from law schools across the country may enroll as visiting or transient students. Financial Aid may be available through the home law school.
TEXTBOOK: ADOPTION LAW: THEORY, POLICY, AND PRACTICE (Second Edition) by Cynthia Mabry and Lisa Kelly (Hein 2010). There will also be additional materials handed out in class.
