Private Practice Careers

  • When we think of a legal career, a private practice attorney typically comes to mind. By far the most chosen career path, private practice employment is much more than just working in a law firm.

Employment in private practice encompasses all kinds of firms:

    • Small, medium, or large law firms
    • Main office vs. branch office
    • Large legal markets vs. small legal markets
    • General practice firms vs. boutique firms
    • Solo practice

Recruiting law clerks and attorneys for private practice varies from firm to firm. Small firms mostly hire on an as needed basis, choosing to hire by word of mouth or through law school job posting boards. Large firms, however, tend to have cyclical hiring and use such programs as On-Campus Interviewing, career fairs, or lateral hiring. At Capital, we offer a number of programs to assist firms in recruiting students and graduates including an online job posting board, on-campus interviewing, and resume collection.
