Why Avery Young Chose Capital Law

1/31/2018  -

Avery Young, L’19, wanted to attend a law school that was outside of his comfort zone, both geographically and educationally. Having grown up in North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his Bachelor of Arts in History, he wanted to spend some time in a different part of the country. And, he wanted to be challenged academically, in order to be the best lawyer he could be.

When he visited Capital University Law School he knew it was the perfect place for him.

Avery was pleasantly surprised by how welcoming and comfortable the school felt. From the students to the faculty and staff, everyone that he encountered made him feel that Capital would not only teach him the legal principals he needed to be successful, but would also provide a broad range of opportunities outside the classroom, not only during law school but after graduation as well.

He chose Capital for two main reasons: 1) the comfortable and supportive community he found, which has filled his law school experience with optimism and encouragement, and 2) the close relationship that Capital has with the legal community in Columbus and its alumni, which provides a vast network of opportunities and mentors.

“From your first day as a 1L, Capital focused on ensuring that you become the best legal professional possible,” Avery said.

After moving to Columbus from North Carolina, Avery quickly fell in love with Columbus and all that the city has to offer. Between the amazing tacos at Condado, the festivals in the Columbus Commons, and the nightlife in the Short North, there was always something to do, see, and eat only steps from the Law School.

Currently working at a law firm in Columbus, Avery is still enjoying the vast legal opportunities Capital has provided and is deciding what type of law he wants to practice after he graduates. Avery knows that the friendships and relationships that he has and continues to gain at Capital will only help him as he begins his legal career.
