The Foreclosure Mediation ProjectSince 2010, CapLaw students have gotten a first-hand look at the effects of the national foreclosure crisis by volunteering for the Law School’s foreclosure mediation project. The program connects Capital students with people going through foreclosure, with the goal of helping homeowners understand the mediation process. Upperclass law students volunteer their time for the pro bono program talking with homeowners about how mediation works and what they need to do to prepare.
Professor Peggy Cordray, who designed the program, said that by educating homeowners about mediation, the students make the process smoother for all involved, from the homeowners to the lending institutions to the mediators.
