Students are interested in law school for a variety of reasons and whatever your motivation may be; we are here to support you and help you to become the best practitioner that you can be. To that end the Office of Diversity and Inclusion Affairs is here to provide opportunities outside of the classroom that will help make our students better citizens of the world and better advocates for their increasingly diverse clientele. Our offices are here to enhance the educational experience for all students through diversity and service learning programs. The Office of Diversity & Inclusion also works closely with Capital University at large to support campus wide programming, such as the Martin Luther King Day of Learning, and liaises with the Columbus Bar Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the John Mercer Langston Bar Association, and other local attorney interest groups to encourage positive employment outcomes for students. The office is located on the third floor of Capital University Law School. Mission StatementThe Office of Diversity & Inclusion supports underrepresented students at Capital University Law School through recruitment efforts, program development, counseling, and advocacy. The Office communicates with alumni from underrepresented groups, and acts as an ambassador from Capital University Law School to communities that have not traditionally produced law students. We believe that our differences and diverse points of view create not only a better learning environment, but also produces attorneys that are better prepared to compete in an increasingly diverse and globalized community. The creation of an educational and work environment that is inclusive and rich in diversity is morally right and demonstrably sound from an educational perspective, as statistics show that all students who learn in such an environment directly benefit. The Office of Diversity & Inclusion is a part of the Department of Student Affairs and works with all students, faculty, and staff to raise awareness and appreciation of diversity and promote the benefits of community service.StaffThe Office of Diversity and Inclusion is headed by Associate Director Branden Smith. He can be reached at (614) 236-6392 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
