      Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge John Bessey has announced his retirement at the end of this year.



      Larry Ray was sworn in as a Member of the Public Employee Relations Board (PERB) on June 30, 2012. He was nominated by DC Mayor Gray and confirmed unanimously by DC Council. PERB is the independent agency of the District government responsible for the resolution of labor-management disputes between city agencies and labor organizations.


       Kathleen M. Trafford was recognized in Ohio as "Leaders in Their Field" in the area of Litigation: General Commercial, by Chambers USA, one of the most definitive referral guides of business law firms and lawyers in America.
      Frank A. Titus was recently recognized by the Columbus Chapter of the United Nations Association USA for his leadership at the local and national levels for advocacy in support of the United Nations during 2010 and 2011..



      Martha Gerber Rittinger has been named this year's recipient of the Rich Bebee Alumni Leadership Award and was recognized during Ohio University-Chillicothe's Recognition of Graduation on June 8.


    Jay E. Michael was re-elected to the Columbus Bar Board of Governors. .


      Kathleen Joy was elected to the City Council for the City of Syracuse, New York. She was also honored with the 2012 Women in Leadership Award, "in recognition of her accomplishments and efforts as an outstanding role model to the women of Central New York".
      Joan Verchot, a partner in Dinsmore's Cincinnati office, was selected for the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber's WE Lead Program. WE Lead, part of the Women Excel initiative, is a program geared toward women on established career tracts who are guided by the program for professional grown and development. 


      Lisa Eschleman has been named the new executive director for the Ohio Center for Law Related Education..


      Jud Scheaf and two colleagues have formed Welin O'Shaughnessy & Scheaf LLC in the Warehouse District downtown (Columbus, OH).



      Michael Bridges has joined the Detroit law firm of Dickinson Wright in their newly opened Columbus office.


      Adam C Miller has joined Taft Stettinius & Hollister as a partner in the public law and education litigation practice groups. .
      Jay S. Willis was appointed Judge of the Domestic Relations Court of Scioto County in Portsmouth, OH.   


      Steven C. Newman is running for nomination as judge on the Fourth District Court of Appeals bench. 


       David K. Langley has been named vice president of claims for Ohio Hospital Association Insurance Solutions Inc. .


      Chris O'Shaughnessy and two friends have formed Welin O'Shaughnessy & Scheaf LLC in the Warehouse District downtown (Columbus, OH) .  


      Ackerman Brown PLLC, has been recognized by Washington Business Journal as one of the top 50 Best Places to work in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Glenn Ackerman is Managing Partner


      Craig Hairston has joined Roetzel & Andress in their Columbus office as an associate attorney.

      Melanie Martin-Jones, Partner at Porter, Wright, Morris and Arthur, LLP has been named to the Women for Economic and Leadership Development (WELD) 2013 "Twelve Women You Should Know" list. This honor is given each year to a diverse group of 12 women in the central Ohio community who are high impact leaders withine their organizations, support the leadership development of other women, give time, talent and resources to the community, and invest in the growth of women-owned businesses.

      LeeAnn Massucci was elected to the Columbus Bar Board of Governors. 
       Anne C.Blankenship joined the law firm of Babst Calland as a shareholder in the firm's environmental and energy practices. 


      Jim Abrams was elected to the Columbus Bar Board of Governors.
      Todd Ernsberger, L'03, LL.M.'04, was named a shareholder in the firm of Onda, LaBuhn, Rankin & Boggs. 


       Jennifer Adair was re-elected to the Columbus Bar Board of Governors.
      William Brown has been named athletic director at Chillicothe (OH) High School. 

      Robert L. Gresham has been elected to serve a three-year term as District 2 representative on the Board of Governors of the Ohio State Bar Association.


      Nita Hanson has joined Dinsmore's Columbus office as an associate in the Litigation Department.


      Chris Jackson has joined Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP in the Intellectual Property practice group as an associate in the Columbus (OH), office.
      Celia M. Kilgard has joined Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP as an associate in the Litigation Department.
      This summer, Angie Opalinik and Chris Buerkle got married. They met and fell in love at the Law School. Congratulations! 

    2010 - Present


      Nicole Lynn Harrison will exchange vows with Brian Joseph Pohlman this summer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, OH..


      Jeffrey Paltrow will have an article published in an upcoming volume of the Wyoming Law Review. Professor Rick Wood describes the article (on the Hope and Lifelong Learning Credits) as an excellent work.

    In Memoriam

    John Paul Houghton, MT'95, passed away unexpectedly June 4, 2012. Houghton was a partner at the accounting firm of Levin & Houghton.

    Michael P. Schostok, L'86, an attorney practicing personal injury law as a principal in the firm of Salvi, Schostok, and Pritchard of Chicago and Waukegan, passed away July 16, 2012. 

    Jack L. Johnson, L'61, passed away July 28, 2012. CEO Magazine of Franklin County named Johnson a Top Lawyer in 2009 and 2010.

    Selyne K. Youngclaus, L'82, died August 13, 2012 after being stricken ill at home.
