Sasha Carbone is the Associate General Counsel for the American Arbitration Association. In that capacity, Ms. Carbone has the responsibility for the management of the legal department and acts as an advisor to the Association’s business divisions. Her specific responsibilities include defending the Association in litigation-related matters involving the Association or its arbitrators, reviewing policies and rules that govern dispute resolution proceedings administered by the Association, and analyzing state and federal legislation impacting the field of alternative dispute resolution. |
Ms. Carbone is also the Chair of the Association’s Diversity Committee. As Chair, she created the AAA A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr. Fellows Program in 2009 in order to provide training, mentorship and networking opportunities to up and coming diverse alternative dispute resolution professionals who have historically not been included in meaningful participation in the field of alternative dispute resolution. Ms. Carbone was also a member of the Arbitration Committee of the New York City Bar from 2004 to 2007. She is co-author of the article, “Increasing Diversity Among Arbitrators – A Guideline to What the New Arbitrator and ADR Community Should Be Doing to Achieve This Goal.”
Prior to joining the American Arbitration Association in 2003, Ms. Carbone worked as a litigation associate in law firms in Washington, D.C. and New York City where her practice focused on commercial litigation, and included alternative dispute resolution procedures. She graduated from the University of Southern California cum laude with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1993 and graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School 1996, where she was editor of the Women’s Law Journal.
